Broad Sword Blade

Our Broad Sword Blade is a perfect universal heavy sword that fits too many applications to list. This blade works exceedingly well, filling the Highland basket’s “backsword” needs as well as the Schiavona’s or even as a Type XI with a “Viking” style Type M knuckle pommel. This features a hand ground distal taper that is 1.4″ – 36mm wide at the forte and .5″ at the tip with central fuller that runs 10″ from the forte. Our blades are made from high quality 5160 spring steel bar stock tempered to the optimal point where maximum toughness & durability meets hardness, 50 RwC.

This blade is specifically meant to fit on swords that do not have a ricasso. This is the blade we use on several basket hilted swords like the Highland Basket and the Mortuary. These blades have a polished finish and flex is centered in the tip third of the blade. This blade is our top-of-the-line, all purpose Cut and Thrust blade; great for SCA, HEMA and WMA rapier and Cut & Thrust combat.

These blades are offered in blade lengths of 34″, 36″, 38″ and 40″ measured from the tang shoulder to the tip.

We also offer these blades with 2 levels of flex stiffness catering to your desired combat discipline: Crossover SCA Rapier/C&T and HEMA Flex (F3) & C&T and HEMA Flex (F4)

Crossover SCA Rapier/C&T and HEMA Flex (F3)- Medium heavy stiffness, compliant to SCA Rapier and Cut & Thrust calibration. 1″ – 1.5″ drop @ 6 oz. (170 gr). Recommended flex for SCA Rapier and Cut & Thrust dual duty, WMA and HEMA armored combat.

C&T and HEMA Flex (F4)- High stiffness, compliant to SCA Cut & Thrust and HEMA calibration. .5″ – .75″ drop @ 6 oz. (170 gr). Recommended for SCA Cut & Thrust and HEMA armored combat only.

Finally, we offer two tip types: Normal Tip (NT) (+$0.00), the standard rounded tip that accepts a rubber blunt and Spatulated Tip (ST) (+$11.00), a swelled and rounded tip that offers tip width of no less than 5mm.

Be sure to choose your length and flex options when ordering. If not specified, a flex weight of 3 will be assumed.
