Description

Standard Side Sword Blades

Our Standard Side Sword blades feature a hand ground, multi-tiered distal taper that is 1.125″ wide at the forte and .4″ at the tip with a reduced ricasso section for a comfortable grip inside. Our blades are made from high quality 5160 spring steel bar stock tempered to the optimal point where maximum toughness & durability meets hardness, 50 RwC.

These blades have a dedicated 8 sided, double fullered forte that runs nearly the first third of the blade length before turning into a diamond distal taper. This attribute puts more of the weight of the blade in the hand, effectively giving the blade a Point of Balance (POB) closer to the guard then conventional blades. The thicker forte section is also very stiff increasing power in the bind and parries. These blades have a polished finish. The flex is centered in the tip third of the blade. The Standard Side Sword blade is our top-of-the-line all purpose Cut and Thrust blade; great for SCA, HEMA and WMA rapier and Cut & Thrust combat.

These blades are offered in blade lengths from 34″ up to 42″ measured from the tang shoulder to the tip. This measurement includes the ricasso section.

We also offer these blades with 2 levels of flex stiffness catering to your desired combat discipline:Crossover SCA Rapier/C&T and HEMA Flex (F3) AND C&T and HEMA Flex (F4).

Crossover SCA Rapier/C&T and HEMA Flex (F3)- Medium heavy stiffness, compliant to SCA Rapier and Cut & Thrust calibration. 1″ – 1.5″ drop @ 6 oz. (170 gr). Recommended flex for SCA Rapier and Cut & Thrust dual duty, WMA and HEMA armored combat. 

C&T and HEMA Flex (F4)- High stiffness, compliant to SCA Cut & Thrust and HEMA calibration. .5″ – .75″ drop @ 6 oz. (170 gr). Recommended for SCA Cut & Thrust and HEMA armored combat only.

Finally, we offer two tip types: Normal Tip (NT) (+$0.00), the standard rounded tip that accepts a rubber blunt and Spatulated Tip (ST) (+$11.00),  a swelled and rounded tip that offers tip width of no less than 5mm.

Be sure to choose your length, flex and tip options when ordering. If not specified, a flex weight of 2 and normal tip will be assumed.
