Our traditional French Foils are an accurate reproduction of Victorian antiques. These parts sets are made from 316L stainless in a bright finish and the pommel is threaded M6 to accommodate most modern foil or epee blades. The grip is 3D printed PLA to match the exact contours and details of the antiques.
Mounted on a #5 foil blade with a choice of two grip styles, the total weight is a mere *280 grams(9.8oz) with a balance point of 11cm* (4.4″). The “Bishop” shaped pommel is 24 grams (.84oz), is tapped with M6 thread and has a small hole though the end that will accommodate a rod up to 1/8″ to help tighten everything down. The iconic figure eight “Lunette” guard is 54gr. The grip selections are both 12.6cm (5.0″) long per the antiques and average 34 grams (1.2oz) between the two styles. Style #1 is a contoured elliptical shape that tapers at each end and has a ribbed pattern that feels identical to the antique. Style #2 has a more commonly used square cross section with a slight curve to aid what many modern and post modern practitioners consider the “proper” grip.
These parts are ROBUST, other similar guards cast from tin, bronze or brass are fairly soft. This hardware set being made from 316L stainless is not only quite hard, it is completely tarnish and rust resistant.
These parts are sold as a complete foil proudly mounted on Blue Gauntlet #5 foil blades; what we consider to be one of the finest foil blades on the market today, OR the stand-alone Hardware Set is sold separately HERE so you can mount them on blades of your choosing. Keep in mind that there may be some slight filing and fitment if you use your own supplied blades as there are some differences in forte size from brand to brand.
* Weight may vary depending on the brand and size of foil blade.
