Castille proudly presents our KriegsMesser!
We’ve been working on a new messer model for a while but in lieu of other project swords and just plain being super busy, it has been put off. Well, we’ve finally got something we believe everyone is really going to like and on top of being light, tough, well balanced and attractive looking, the price will surprise you in a very good way!
Our Kriegsmesser is not only made to represent a very historically accurate combat simulator, but we also asked you and our SCA and HEMA community as to the specifications needed to be legal for tournament. We also understand the need for lighter and safer sparring weapons. This model checks every box.
We started out with our flat distal taper “BBS” spring steel for the blade. This steel is tried and true, one of the toughest materials out there, just ask around how our other “BBS” blade models are holding up. This blade is 34” (86.4cm) long, is 1-5/16” (3.3cm) wide at the forte and has that classic “Messer” profile including a notched back for the tip-most 12” (30.5cm). The tip is 3mm thick and rounded 1/2” (13mm) diameter. It fits our #3 Castille safety tip perfectly!
The guard is made from hardened 5mil 4130 and is simple but sized perfectly with a 2-3/4” (7cm) tall nagel and 8” (20.3cm) tip-to-tip quillons. The grip is solid PLA contoured oval cross section with a texture that offers great purchase even with those slippery leather gloves. Finally, the pommel is something new, it’s metal 3d printed! Something we will be doing more of. This “Hawks Beak” style pommel is designed to be the exact weight needed for a great POB of 3.7/8” (10cm) from the cross. It is also comfortable and allows a total grip space of 10”. It is all held together by a hardened M6 pin that fit tightly recessed in the pommel.
We truly believe that our Kriegsmesser is the game changer that everyone has been counting for a while now and like nearly all our products, it is modular for easy parts changes!
