This longsword build is part of the next generation of products that will be applied to our retail partners program, but for the time being you can get it directly from us here!
Our Gallowglass longsword has hardware inspired by antiques preserved at the National Irish Museum of Archeology. The slightly curved spoon-shaped quillons and the distinct ring pommel are iconic details seen on these Irish great swords.
This completely new design is part of a collection of 5 complete build longswords that have identical handling but a personality all their own. We have applied cutting edge manufacturing technology and precision heat treating processes to remove every weakness from conventional sparring designs. Every part is painstakingly designed for flawless fit and finish but is still modular for easy takedown and re-assembly. The parts that make up this next generation of longswords is completely interchangeable.
The blade design is simple, elegant and incredibly responsive. For overall dimensions, we compiled what 90% of our customers purchased in the past and worked at length with leaders of the HEMA and SCA communities to develop a single blade that fits the requirements and desires of most. With this one-size-fits-all approach, we are able to build more blades with less setup and therefore offer a truly competitive price. These longsword models come standard with a 38″ fullered, diamond distal taper blade with a swelled tip.
As mentioned before, the inspired hardware is metal 3D printed from 17-4 stainless steel and is normalized and heat treated here at our facility for structural integrity. W are so proud about this, we are offering a limited LIFETIME warranty on it. You heard me right. The blade comes with a 2 year warranty.
We offer 2 grip lengths. The most commonly purchased is the 10″ grip length. For those that want to do the fun German moves, a longer 12″ grip can be more comfortable. The grips are made from solid high temp PETG and are made to compress for a tight fit that should rarely need tightening of the pommel pin after the initial break in.
Finally, the clever part of these designs is the hardware fitment and lock down. The pommel locks down over the rectangular end of the tang and will not rotate. This also puts the burden of shear forces on the tang proper and none on the M6 threads. These pommels require a dedicated M6 thread pin that when tightened down, the pommel will compress the grip an 1/8″ and then come to rest on the tang shoulder. This means your sword is always tight and rattle free.
